Watch A Celebrity Hairstylist Create The Coolest, Easiest Updo

From Harper's BAZAAR

Formal hair isn't so formal these days. You're more likely to see messy waves or a top knot on the red carpet than a structured, stiff updo. But when an occasion calls for pulled-back hair (in a more sophisticated style than say, a ponytail or struggle bun), it's essential to know how to whip something up on the fly. Here, celebrity hairstylist Adir Abergel shows off how to create a cool-girl updo with plenty of texture, the same one he so often does on client Kristen Stewart.

To get this voluminous, fuzzy style, you'll need mousse (try Virtue Uplifted Volumizing Whip), pomade (try Ouai Matte Pomade), hair clips, a diffuser, and plenty of pins. Abergel's key takeaway tip? Work mousse through your hair when it's 90 percent dry-then stick clips vertically all over the front part of the hair to help set height and waves. Blast the work with a diffuser, and once it's dry, remove the clips to reveal the perfect grungy texture for pinning, twisting, and throwing back into an effortless bun. Well, effortless-looking.
