Warner Bros. Hires National Geographic Exec Peter Van Roden

Veteran media executive Peter van Roden has been named senior VP of global-themed entertainment for Warner Bros. Consumer Products.

Van Roden will start on March 7 and report directly to Karen McTier, executive VP of Warner Bros. consumer products. He’ll develop and implement global entertainment strategies that benefit long-term brand building and revenue growth, including theme parks, themed entertainment attractions, exhibits and live events around the world.

Warner Bros. Consumer Products’ offerings include the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Harry Potter: The Exhibition, attractions based on DC Comics’ heroes and villains, along Looney Tunes’ animated characters.

Van Roden has more than two decades of experience in production, marketing and management. He worked at Sesame Workshop as VP of themed entertainment, where he oversaw global business development and brand management in theme parks, tours, exhibits and other non-traditional media ventures.

Most recently, Van Roden had been National Geographic’s senior VP of global experiences and events. In this position, he oversaw National Geographic’s emerging location-based operations, including themed entertainment and touring shows, as well as National Geographic’s public programs, speakers’ bureau, National Geographic Museum and traveling exhibits.
