Before the pandemic, walking was just a thing I did when I couldn’t justify driving a short distance.

However, almost a year into coronavirus restrictions, and now walking is a hobby I do more than almost anything else.

I walk for exercise, I walk to keep my head clear, I walk because it’s the only reason I have to leave my house.

While walking during the warmer months requires nothing more than a layer of sun cream and a bottle of water, walking during the colder months is another thing altogether.

I stayed faithful to my trainers for as long as I could, even though I could tell my ankles needed more support and my toes were beginning to feel the numbing effect of the cold.

However, when the snow arrived, I knew I had to invest in some serious walking shoes if I wanted to continue enjoying my new hobby in comfort.

So, I hopped onto Amazon and ordered the cosiest looking pair of snow boots I could find.

I only had two criteria: I needed them to be warm and I needed to be able to afford them without my bank account feeling the full force.

I settled for the Crocs Women's Winter Puff Snow Boot – they had over 1,000 reviews; a puffy, warm-looking, exterior, and could be easily slipped on and off.

When they arrived I thought I’d get a few good snowy walks a year out of them, but I soon realised that they were the perfect companion for all walks – come snow, rain or shine.

They helped me pound through mud and crunch through ice while staying cosy.

They pulled easily over jeans or leggings and could fit an extra pair of fluffy socks inside.

Needless to say, my trainers have now been retired to the back of the cupboard, and these snow boots are my latest lockdown obsession.

There have been quite a few over the past few months, but none so worthy of the title ‘essential’.

My top tip? Size up.
