The vivid beauty look at Anna Sui was the ultimate joy sparker

So far this New York Fashion Week, the beauty looks have conjured a mood of mystique. As one might expect for an autumn/winter season showcase, there has been deep vampy lips modelled (at Adeam, Rodarte and Kim Shui) and sooty smoky eyes (at Alice + Olivia by Stacy Bendet, Heron Preston and Jason Wu). But in stark contrast – although with equally alluring effect – the make-up at Anna Sui featured flashes of extreme colour, confirming that dopamine dressing for the face is here to stay.

The work of living legend Pat McGrath and her team, fuchsia pink and mint green eye make-up reflected the AW23 collection's 1960s-influence, nodding to the era's bold and vivid fashion scene.

Two of the Pat McGrath Labs eyeshadow palettes were used to create the look, the Mothership IX: Huetopian Dream Palette, with the shades Astral Amethyst Moon and Astral Venusian Orchid pressed onto the eyelids; and the Mthrshp: Belle Of The Ball Palette (curated in collaboration with Bridgerton), with the shade Darling Dandy applied to the lower lash line with a small blending brush.

While we'd be tempted to follow with black mascara, for the show models' lashes were given another modern twist, with coats of the brand's Colour Blitzmascara in shades of Ultraviolet Blue applied to the top lashes, and Aquamarine Dream applied to the bottom.

For balance, brows were groomed but natural and lips remained bare, save for some

Lip Fetish Sheer Colour Balm in Clear, while cheeks had a subtle flush of blush from the Skin Fetish: Divine Blush in Divine Rose – a pretty, suit-all shade.

This look is certainly not one to sit on until autumn. It's the perfect playful spring or summer party look – whether it be for a festival, wedding or garden party – that's both spirit-lifting and simple.
