Vin Diesel Reveals xXx 3 Director

Welcome back to the Xander zone. Yes, a second sequel to Vin Diesel’s 2002 spy adventure ‘xXx’ is in the works - and Diesel has just revealed who will direct it.

While Diesel opted not to reprise the role of extreme sports rebel-turned-secret agent Xander Cage in 2004 sequel ‘xXx 2: The Next Level’ (AKA ‘xXx: State of the Union’), he will be back in the third film - and, he has revealed that DJ Caruso will be behind the camera.

Diesel tells IO9, “ I’m excited as hell about XXX. D.J. Caruso is directing it, which is exciting. The big question now is which will race to production first now that F. Gary Gray is on [Furious 8]? Will XXX race to production first or will Fast race to production first?”

Caruso’s previous credits include ‘Disturbia,’ ‘Eagle Eye’ and ‘I Am Number Four,’ and he was also attached to aborted big screen takes on the acclaimed DC Vertigo comics ‘Y: The Last Man’ and ‘Preacher’ (the latter of which is now coming to TV via Seth Rogen).

Diesel had previously declared that the as-yet untitled third ‘xXx’ film would go before cameras in the Philippines this December, but his comments now suggest there is some uncertainty over that now - hardly surprising, given ‘Furious 7′ earned well over $1 billion at the global box office this year, whereas the ‘xXx’ movies made less than $350 million put together, over a decade ago.

Still, Diesel seems keen to bring Xander Cage back, and here’s what he has to say on the appeal of the character:

“XXX is one of those films you do when you need to have a little fun. When the weight and pressures of all the other things have gone so far that you need to have a character that you can just have fun and more comment on life and comment on the outcome than being in it like Dom Torretto [from Fast and Furious].

“Dom is very much the center of the storm, Xander is more the guide to something else and you’re just with him.”

No release dates or further details for a third ‘xXx’ have been confirmed at present.
