Video Shows Sergio Brown Scuffle with Law Enforcement on Plane Before Arrest: ‘They’re Kidnapping Me’

Sergio Brown was arrested on Oct. 10 and faces first-degree murder charges in connection with the death of his mother, Myrtle Brown

A video has emerged showing Sergio Brown, the ex-NFL player who will face a first-degree murder charge in connection with his mother's death, in a scuffle with law enforcement on a plane where officials were trying to bring him back to the United States, according to CBS8.

The video, which was obtained by the outlet and taken by a fellow passenger, begins with Brown saying “I’m free now, I have my passport!”

He is seen in a white t-shirt between two rows of seats; he's being held back by one person from the back and another from the front, which CBS8 reports are Mexican officers.

“Why are they grabbing me? They're kidnapping me again,” Brown says in the video.

“I am from Chicago, my flight was Colombia — why am I going to Tijuana?”

The officer in front of Brown says something inaudible before Brown continues to speak loudly. Then he breaks free from the man holding him from the back and appears to shove the officer.

“Let me go!” he says again, repeating his claim that he's the victim of a “kidnapping.”

This wasn’t the first time Brown has made claims of being kidnapped since his mom's killing. Shortly after his mother Myrtle Brown’s body was found in September, Brown appeared in a video where he claimed he had been kidnapped by Maywood, Ill., police before, PEOPLE reported previously.

CBS8 reports the airplane video was taken on Oct. 8, two days before Brown was arrested in San Diego, Calif. In the video, Brown says, “This is criminal confinement, they're not authority figures, they should not do this."

Soon after, Brown leans forward and then swings his head back at the person holding him from behind, hitting his own head on the ceiling. He continues to say, "They're kidnapping me."

A fellow passenger, who would later introduce herself as a physician, approaches Brown and tries to calm him down with what appears to be a breathing activity.

Brown seems to calm down a bit before yelling, “He got authority problem!”

He twists his way out of the hold of the man behind him, and after breaking free, he gets on the aisle and snatches the badge of the other officer.

The fellow passenger who had tried to calm him before repeatedly asks him to “breathe," which he appears to respond to. He then grabs his bag from the foot of his seat, and the woman continues to assist him.

She asks if he would like a glass of water but when he says yes, a person who can’t be seen in the video tells the woman Brown wouldn't be allowed to have water.

The video soon ends, with Brown still on the plane.

Brown was arrested nearly four weeks after he and his 73-year-old mother were reported missing by family members, according to the press release from the Maywood Police Department.

Christian Conway, a spokesperson for the family, told PEOPLE on Wednesday that Brown was deported from Mexico in relation to the ongoing investigation. She said he is awaiting extradition to Illinois, and declined to comment on his mental health at the time.

In September, Myrtle's body was found by a creek near the Maywood home she shared with Sergio, but the former football player was not located.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office previously told PEOPLE that Myrtle’s death is being investigated as a homicide, and that she died as a result of "multiple injuries due to assault."
