Victoria Star Tom Hughes Reportedly A New Contender For James Bond

Move over Elba, Hiddleston, Turner, Northam et al – it seems we have yet another new contender for the next 007.

Tom Hughes, who stars alongside Jenna Coleman in new ITV drama ‘Victoria,’ is apparently now in with a shot at taking over from Daniel Craig as the iconic MI6 agent.

According to The Mirror, Bond producer Barbara Broccoli was taken with the young actor after his performance as an MI5 agent in BBC spy show ‘The Game.’

The unnamed source declares, “Barbara has told those around her how impressed she was with Tom in The Game. She thinks he is very talented and has been looking at all his shows to see if he is up for the role.”

It seems the actor’s relative newcomer status isn’t too great a concern, as the source claims “[the] 007 creators haven’t been able to find their Bond so they have started searching for new, fresh faces.”

As a graduate of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts and reportedly a ‘serious method actor,’ Cheshire-born Hughes (whose film credits include ‘About Time’ and ‘Cemetery Junction’) clearly packs some serious punch as a thespian.

However, given that he’s only 30 years old at present, he might seem a little young for Bond. (That said, Sean Connery was only 32 when he debuted the role in ‘Doctor No.’)

It must once again be stressed that it’s still possible Daniel Craig could return for a fifth Bond movie, as the 48-year old actor – who has been in the role since 2006’s ‘Casino Royale’ – has not officially stepped down.

The 25th Bond movie is thought to be in development at present, with a view to a 2018 release.
