Veteran actor Yutaka Takenouchi has the face most Japanese men want to have
Last week, Oricon Japan’s survey revealed that Japanese women found that actress Keiko Kitagawa has the most ideal face. Another survey for the male counterpart had been carried out as well at the end of October, with responses from some 500 males aged between 10 and 60. Interestingly, topping the chart is Yutaka Takenouchi, a 49-year-old actor known for his role as the National Security Advisor in Shin Godzilla (2016).
1. Yutaka Takenouchi
This marks the second time Takenouchi achieved the top position since 2018’s ranking. Turning 50 next January, the veteran actor is regarded as the handsome uncle in Japan. Truly, his voters described his looks as “manly”, “cool” and even admired the fact that Takenouchi looked good with a moustache and beard. Even as he aged, the masculine actor seemed to possess an unchanging attractiveness.
2. Takeru Satoh
After starring in An Incurable Case of Love recently, a romantic drama set in a hospital, Satoh has once again established his charisma — the last time being his impeccable performance in the live-action film series Rurouni Kenshin. Making the biggest jump from the tenth position last year to the runner-up this year, Satoh is praised not only for his seemingly perfect and cool looks, but also his friendly character with a dash of cuteness.
3. Hiroshi Tamaki
Taking the third position is yet another manly actor, Hiroshi Tamaki, who had been portraying badass characters in his recent works: revenge drama Path Of The Dragons, and The Way Of The Househusband, in which Tamaki stars as a retired yakuza (the equivalent of triads in Japan). These left an impression on his voters who described him as “cool”, “wild” and even said Tamaki has the “sex appeal of a dandy”. To top it off, Tamaki once reduced his body fat percentage to five per cent for a role, upon which a fan commented, “Life can’t be bad if you can have a face like this with five per cent body fat!”
The following Japanese male celebrities also made it into the top 10 owing to their unique traits:
4. Dean Fujioka
Despite looking “mysteriously cool”, Fujioka has a warm smile. Even though he is a pure Japanese, one of his voters is envious that he looks a little like a Westerner.
5. Satoshi Tsumabuki
Tsumabuki has a “gentle image” with a “refreshing face that is highly favoured by both men and women”.
6. Hidetoshi Nishijima
Also at a fine age of 49, Nishijima is praised to be looking cool during his younger days and even as he gets older.
7. Ryo Yoshizawa
The youngest among the top 10, 26-year-old Yoshizawa is one of the promising actors who has “a good balance of coolness and cuteness”.
8. Shun Oguri
Since his Boys Over Flowers days as part of the Flower Four (F4), Oguri has been stealing the hearts of many even as he approaches his forties. One of his voters even said, “If I have a face like this, my life would change.”
9. Sota Fukushi
Fukushi gives off a “cool and knowledgeable” vibe and has a “refreshing look” that makes you “feel good”.
10. Masaki Okada
Okada is said to be looking so “clean that it is difficult to think we are both humans”.
Now that we have seen both Japanese male and female celebrity rankings of the most want-to-have face, did your top favourites make it into the lists?
