Singapore’s fast food nation is about to get even faster now that the country’s largest vending machine purveyor, JR Group, has just launched a vending machine cafe at Ang Mo Kio MRT Station on Tuesday (13 June). The venue is also the first train station in the country to house such an eatery, with a second outlet set to open at Lakeside MRT station next week.

Just last year, JR Group launched the country’s first-ever vending machine cafe at the void deck of 320C Anchorvale Drive in Sengkang, which was quickly met with an overwhelming response as long queues were spotted at the high-tech eatery soon after its opening.

Now, commuters from Ang Mo Kio and Lakeside can grab a quick bite as well as a choice of more than 90 food and drink options, including 10 new dishes like Fried Carrot Cake, Thai Green Curry Chicken and Spanish Paella.

“Every day, millions of commuters enjoy lifestyle conveniences in the SMRT public transport network as they shop and dine on-the-go. At SMRT Properties, we continually look for partners that can create new F&B concepts and benefit our commuters,” said Tan Yang Poh, general manager of SMRT Properties.

It was also revealed that the vending machines are installed with the latest “cook chill” technology, in contrast to the “cook freeze” technology found in many vending machines.

The new technology helps to cut dispensing time from the usual four minutes to just 30 seconds.

Similar to the cafe in Sengkang, the ones at the two MRT stations offer cashless payment facilities so customers can make purchases via Android Pay, Apple Pay, contactless credit cards and transport cards such as EzLink.
