Vegan and dairy-free Easter eggs to stock up on before the long weekend

Easter didn’t used to be much fun for those of us following a vegan or dairy-free diet.
In the days before the vegan revolution, severely limited options meant you were missing out on enjoying specialised egg-shaped confectionary – making do with a token bar of drably-packaged free from chocolate instead.
Thankfully, this is now a thing of the past. Just last year, new vegan product launches increased by 200%, making the UK the world leader in this category.
The plethora of options now available means that those with niche food preferences are not only catered for, but practically spoilt with options, ahead of the long Easter weekend coming up on the 19th to the 22nd of April.

Even high street giants are producing vegan alternative, such as the Tesco Finest Free From Belgian Dark Chocolate Egg (£6.50 for 200g).

Marks & Spencer have also produced the Made Without Dairy Chocolate Egg (£7), which is made from dark chocolate buttons.
Luxury brands such as Hotel Chocolat are also jumping on the vegan bandwagon. Its extra-thick Rare & Vintage Egg (£29) contains half Colombio 75% dark chocolate, half Honduras 72% dark – and zero dairy.

You can also rely as ever on free from pioneers Holland & Barrett, who this year have produced an adorable Dairy Free Organic Milk Chocolate Alternative Egg (£2.99), which comes complete with a cute “bunny bar”. Made with 100% renewable energy, this treat has the added perk of being sustainable.

Yahoo staffers were also big fans of Divine’s 60% Smooth Dark Chocolate Egg with Pink Himalayan Sea Salt (£5, from Waitrose, BP and Ocado), the added saltiness cleverly bringing out the sweetness of the chocolate.

For something a bit different, try the Chococo Madagascar Vegan Milc Egg (£18.50, available online), which is made with cashews – providing a creamy, slightly nutty texture.

Not all eggs have to come super-sized: Rhythm 108’s Mini Easter Truffle Eggs are a rich, chocolate-y mini treat made from all-organic ingredients including raw cane sugar and cocoa butter.
