The Premium Classics collection is comprised of the Premium Sk8-Mid 83 and the Premium Old Skool 36 — both reintroducing ’90s elements to their design. Vans first launched the original Sk8-Mid to cater to skaters’ shoe needs. The new version maintains that purpose in addition to key design elements, such as retro toe box stitching, a single-row collar with a skinnier Sidestripe alongside a higher glossed sidewall.

Meanwhile, Vans first introduced the original Style 36 shoe in 1977, becoming the second skate shoe ever created by the brand. Additionally, it was Vans’ first shoe to ever feature the famous Sidestripe. The side stripe first started out as a random doodle by co-founder Paul Van Doren and was first referred to as the “jazz stripe.” The Premium version features elements of the original, including a higher glossed sidewall and foxing tape with original ‘90s Osnaburg reinforcement.

Vans was founded in 1966 by brothers Paul Van Doren and Jim Van Doren and partners Gordon Lee and Serge Delia in Anaheim, California. By the early ’70s, they had become the go-to shoe for skaters in California. Since then, they’ve expanded globally with distribution to several countries, such as the United States, India and Mexico.

The Sk8-Mid 83 retails at $105 and the Premium Old Skool 36 is priced at $90. Both are available for purchase on the official Vans website.
