Vanness Wu's father sentenced for bribery

16 May - It was revealed that George Wu, the father of Taiwanese star Vanness Wu, has been sentenced to 37 months in prison and three years of probation for five counts of bribery and conspiracy charges, as reported on UDN News.

According to the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the 63-year-old immigration consultant and former officer of the Federal Bureau of Customs and Border Protection, was previously accused of soliciting money from immigrants to bribe public officials to allow applicants to obtain green card.

The sentencing was announced recently at the Los Angeles district court, as Wu begged for leniency in the sentencing.

He revealed that his wife has been having emotional stress since his arrest and will not be able to take care of their 13-year-old daughter on her own.

Wu's defense team also appealed for a lighter sentence, saying that the 63-year-old has a history of diabetes and will not be able to withstand the condition in prison.

Vanness has declined to comment about the case. The singer-actor had been living with her mother and stepfather since his parents' divorce.
