US Cinema Ticket Prices Hit All-Time High

The average price for a cinematic ticket in the United States has hit $8.73 - a new all-time high according to the National Association of Theatre Owners.

The new average was calculated from data collected from every cinema in the US, and every screening held at them. The figure is up from $8.58 in 2016’s first quarter.

The quarterly rise is a result of the start of a busy summer blockbuster season that has seen the releases of ‘Captain America: Civil War’, 'X-Men: Apocalypse’ and 'Finding Dory’.

There has been a year-on-year rise of 1.4%, despite the enormous success last year of films like 'Jurassic World’ and 'Furious 7’ - which each grossed over $1 billion.

In the UK the average price is £7.17, which marks a 48% rise over the decade and works out at $9.47 (via The Guardian).
