One of the biggest lessons we got from the pandemic is the importance of art in all forms. Stuck indoors, most people sought entertainment through online streaming platforms and rediscovering childhood passions of arts and crafts. In celebration and support of Malaysia’s evergrowing art industry, Yayasan Sime Darby will be organising this year’s Yayasan Sime Darby Arts Festival, the first in 5 years.

From 19 Aug to 20 Aug 2023, take part in the country’s biggest arts festival located at Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (KLPAC). Following the theme of “Shout it Out: Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow”, the festival aims to encourage visitors to be vocal about the ups and downs of being Malaysian. YSDAF 2023 will take place from 11am till late, and did I mention that admission is free for everyone?

This festival is the perfect weekend plan for families and friends, as there’s something for everyone. With over 300 art related activities and 1000 local artists in attendance, there’s absolutely no space for anyone to feel bored here— a new adventure awaits every corner you turn.

You’ll find art installations, P. Ramlee film screenings, shows, a dance battle competition, and even workshops at YSDAF. Instead of just standing and observing from afar, you get to interact with and experience these art forms first-hand.

If you’ve been thinking of picking up a new skill, now’s your chance! From dancing and acting, to mandala and monologue writing, attendees are spoiled for choice.

In an effort to promote inclusivity for all, the festival will also be engaging with other communities. They assure that all crew members will receive Diability-Related Services Training (DRST) and Disability Equality Training (DET) to better serve all festival goers. Not only that, they’ll also be conducting workshops like movement therapy and art therapy.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their own containers as Yayasan Sime Darby Arts Festival 2023 is committed to reducing plastic waste.
