An Ultra-Modern Residence in a Landmarked L.A. Neighborhood Lists for $2.6 Million

Many of Los Angeles’ modernist abodes were designed by talents like Gregory Ain, Rudolf Schindler, and the venerable Frank Lloyd Wright. Open floor plans, in fact, were pioneered by Wright, whose Olfelt House and Tirranna designs continue to captivate with their non-traditional facades and unconventional layouts. An award-winning home inspired by those architects work but blazing its own audacious path just came to market in Pasadena, California, and we can’t imagine the $2.6 million pad sitting idle for long.

Built in 2016, the stylish digs at 1200 East Woodbury Road were designed by architect Rick Corsini of Corsini Stark Architects, aka the firm behind L.A.’s Temple Restaurant and Grant Bar. The house was granted the Merit Award from the American Institute of Architects, Los Angeles, in 2018. A cantilevered roofline and angled walls fuse together to create the bold exterior of the home, which has been dubbed the Callow residence and has three bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms spread out over almost 2,600 square feet.

Main living area at 1200 East Woodbury Road
The open-plan main living area is filled with natural light thanks to walls of glass and clerestory windows.

Beyond the gated entrance is a walled courtyard garden and quaint patio. Inside, floor-to-ceiling walls of glass and long ribbons of clerestory windows flood the main living and dining areas with tons of natural light. The living area features a fireplace, while the dining space has ample wall space for hanging your Warhols and Basquiats. Basalt stone and Cumaru flooring are used to connect the airy, colorful room with the outdoor gardens.

The chef’s kitchen features high-end appliances like a stainless-steel gas range stovetop, plus custom cabinetry and a small wood-built island with seating space. Watery green tiles provide a splash of color below a shelf that circles the room for displaying favorite pots and bowls. A low bookshelf display baked into the family/media room provides additional options for displaying treasure knickknack, as long as you don’t mind messing with the feng shui.
