A homeowner-to-homeowner guide, the award honours the work of architects and interior designers who are most popular among the Houzz community, and helps those soon to embark on a renovation to seek top-notch professionals.
These living spaces are the best of the best on the home renovation and design platform, so explore these highlights, take some design notes, and get some inspiration for your next project.
A hardworking kitchen

Cabinets to tuck away small appliances like toasters, kettles, coffee makers and even microwaves have boomed over the past few years. According to the latest Houzz UK Kitchen Trends Report, two in five homeowners added or upgraded a pantry cabinet during a recent kitchen renovation and one in five added or upgraded a coffee station.
A contemporary bathroom

Houzz has reported an increase in more unusual tile formations (see our roundup of new and creative ways to decorate with tiles) and the contemporary vertical stack bond layout is proving especially popular. We love the glossy teal tiles used here, giving this shower space lots of depth, as well as the brass accents for a sophisticated look. The large format tiles help to create a sleek, modern finish.
A mid-century-inspired bedroom

Natural colours and tactile materials are the standout feature of this mid-century-inspired bedroom. 'The horizontal wood cladding behind the bed adds a soothing biophilic element, which is echoed by the wooden chest of drawers, while moss green cushions and soft, stone-coloured upholstery make the space feel calm and restful,' says Amanda Pollard, senior editor at Houzz.co.uk.

With inky blue-green walls and inviting seating, this cosy living room is the perfect space to unwind. With the rise of the newly-coined term 'bookshelf wealth' and searches for 'library' up by 38 per cent on Houzz last year, creating cosy spaces to get stuck into with a good book is clearly high on the agenda.
A space-saving utility room

We love a good space-saving solution, and this stylish utility room does just that. Accented by pale wood tones, it makes clever use of the space with an ingenious rack which slides out from above the stacked machines, and a traditional pulley clothes airer which adds more drying capacity. Other useful features include a pull-out wicker basket, drawers, a shelf and a classic Shaker-style peg rail, which is ideal for hanging a feather duster or tea towel.
An indoor-outdoor dining room

Interestingly, searches for ‘tulip table’ were up 74 per cent on Houzz last year. Clearly proving to be a hit among homeowners, cue this large tulip dining table – it's the ideal spot to host guests. But crucially, this space is the perfect example of connecting indoors and outdoors. A design trick used here sees an exposed brick wall in the dining area, matching the wall in the garden, which helps to visually connect the two spaces.
A sociable garden

This sociable garden is designed for relaxing and entertaining year-round. There's a pergola with a louvred roof, soft lighting and weatherproof furniture, so owners are able to enjoy their outdoor space whatever the weather. 'Garden designers on Houzz predict we’ll begin to see these elements incorporated into gardens much more in the coming years,' says Amanda.
