Two of SoCal’s ‘Glass Ladies’ Houses Are Up for Grabs
Get out the Windex and put away those proverbial stones! A pair of bespoke translucent residences have popped up for sale in the Los Angeles community of Venice Beach, just steps from the popular Abbot Kinney shopping and dining district. Known as Maya, Lady of Botanica and Lucia, Lady of Luxe, the statuesque “Glass Ladies” were previously offered as vacation rentals and are now going for $5.4 million each.
Completed in 2023—and belonging to a themed trio of similar yet undeniably unique structures designed and created on three contiguous parcels by local developer Alon Zakoot, in a modern nod to San Francisco’s famed “Painted Lady” Victorians—the houses are a “true architectural marvel,” according to Brooke A. Elliott of AKG | Christie’s International Real Estate, who is marketing the Maya property at 836 California Ave. Lucia, at 840 California Ave., is listed by Adi Livyatan of Rodeo Realty.

“Maya, Lady of Botanica is a Tulum-inspired work of art, unlike any home I have ever seen before,” says Elliott. “From the moment you enter, you are amazed by walls of glass flooding the home with light, high ceilings and a jungle that brings the home to life. Lucia, lady of Luxe, has more of a contemporary flair. It’s suited toward a buyer who appreciates a decadent aesthetic alongside a Southern California/Venice Beach lifestyle.”
First up is the Botanica property, which boasts five bedrooms and six baths in almost 4,200 square feet of plant-infused living space spanning three levels. Described in the listing as a “harmonious blend of tropical jungle elements and botanical accents,” the main level is showcased by a living room sporting a massive wood-clad fireplace and glass doors spilling out to a terrace on one side, and a lap pool and spa on the other. Back inside, a fireside dining room flows to the kitchen, which is furnished with sleek cabinetry, an eat-in island, high-end stainless appliances and access to an indoor/outdoor lounge area warmed by a fire-pit.
An upper level holds the master retreat, which comes complete with a fireplace, walk-in closet, private balcony, secluded spa tub for two people, and light-filled bath adorned with dual vanities and a rainfall shower. Elsewhere is a lower level with a mini-bar-equipped movie theater, plus a roof deck that’s ideal for al fresco lounging and entertaining with a fireplace and built-in barbecue. A two-car garage also can be found on the premises.
As for Lucia, Lady of Luxe, that five-bedroom, six-bath abode is introduced via a courtyard entrance that opens to a foyer adorned with exotic patterns that carry throughout. There is a little more than 4,100 square feet of three-level living space displaying a formal living room highlighted by a double-height ceiling, shimmering gold accent wall, fireplace and sliding glass door opening to a waterfall-fed lap pool and spa. A formal dining area connects to a gourmet kitchen, which is outfitted with cobalt blue cabinetry, an eat-in island, Miele appliances, and access to an indoor/outdoor lounge area with a fireplace and seated bar.
A floating staircase heads upstairs, where there’s an office, a “pajama lounge,” and sumptuous primary bedroom flaunting a private balcony and walk-in closet, as well as a snazzy spa-like bath equipped with dual vanities, a soaking tub and separate shower; and elsewhere is movie theater hosting a mini-bar and fireplace. Two separate roof decks have built-in sofas, a marble-clad fire-pit, wet bar and barbecue station, and an attached one-car garage could easily serve as a gym.
