Rap legend 2Pac, born Tupac Shakur, is getting a much-deserved biopic film this summer, and the first official trailer was just released yesterday. The preview teases moments in the rapper's tragically short lifetime, from growing up with a Black Panther activist mother to rising up in the rap scene and his controversial days with Death Row Records. (Biggie Smalls and Suge Night also make an appearance in the trailer.)

Directed by Benny Boom, All Eyez on Me is titled after Shakur's 1996 album of the same name-his last release before he died. Up-and-comer Demetrius Shipp Jr. stars as the iconic rapper (and boasts an uncanny resemblance to the late artist). Danai Gurira of The Walking Dead stars as his mother Afeni Shakur.

The film, which premieres in June, arrives just months before the 21st anniversary of Shakur's death. The rapper is also being commemorated this weekend in celebration of his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame today. He is the first solo rap artist to ever receive the honor.

All Eyez on Me hits theaters on June 16, 2017, which would have been Shakur's 46th birthday. Watch the trailer below:
