Trump Foundation Gave $100,000 to Group That Helped Fund Lawsuit Against His ‘Nemesis’ (Report)
Donald Trump’s charitable foundation is under fire for contributing to a conservative group that helped finance a lawsuit against New York state Attorney General Eric Schneiderman — who was, in turn, suing Trump.
Yahoo reports that The Trump Foundation gave $100,000 to the Citizens United Foundation in 2014. The site said that Schneiderman had by then become Trump’s “political nemesis” after suing Trump University for swindling students “through fraudulent and deceptive trade practices, promising to teach them to ‘make a killing’ in the real estate market.”

Last week, Trump’s foundation admitted to paying an IRS fine for making a $25,000 donation to Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi’s reelection campaign, just as she was considering whether or not to join Schneiderman’s lawsuit against Trump University. (Bondi accepted the donation and decided not to sue, but said the two were unrelated).
According to Yahoo’s review of The Trump Foundation’s tax returns, the 2014 donation to Citizens United was by far the largest given to any organization that year — more than the donations it gave to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (which got $50,000), the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute ($25,000) and the Police Athletic League ($25,000).
It was also the first time the Citizens United Foundation had ever received a contribution from Trump’s charity.

A spokesman for Schneiderman told Yahoo that “neither the attorney general nor other senior officials in his office were aware that Trump’s charitable arm had given money to the Citizens United Foundation.”
Trump’s campaign did not respond to TheWrap’s request for comment.
