Trevor Noah's Next Act Is Coming

It’s official, people: Trevor Noah has moved on to his second act. The comedian and former host of The Daily Show just inked a deal with Spotify to host a weekly current events podcast. What can we say? We knew he wouldn’t stay quiet for too long!

The name of the podcast is still under wraps, but the show will premiere later this year and it's expected to feature candid conversations between Noah and a slew of influential figures. Though the podcast is being created with Spotify, it will be available on numerous streaming platforms.

Noah celebrated the next chapter of his career in an official press release. “It’s really exciting to be joining Spotify on a fun new adventure where we’ll engage in interesting in meaningful conversations with some of the world’s most fascinating people,” he said. “We’ll also probably fix every single issue humankind has ever faced so you definitely want to join us for every episode.” Noah also posted about the Spotify deal on Instagram, and wrote, “Letting the cat out of the bag! But just to be clear I never put the cat in the bag to begin with.”

Spotify executive Julie McNamara also expressed her excitement for the show. “Spotify is the ultimate audio destination, and partnering with Trevor Noah, one of the world’s most brilliant and distinctive voices, will make for captivating storytelling that will delight our more than 100 million listeners around the world,” she said in a press release. “We are excited to collaborate with Trevor to create an original podcast that seamlessly combines his unique humor, insightful commentary, and consummate interview skills on a global scale.”

With this deal, Noah joins a league of podcasts hosts who specialize in in-depth interviews, such as Dax Shepard (Armchair Expert), Alex Cooper (Call Her Daddy), and Louis Theroux (Grounded). Some may argue that the genre’s getting oversaturated—so can Noah keep up, or will his podcast go south like the Megan and Harry deal?

Time will tell, but my money’s on Noah’s continued success. The man didn’t earn 11 Emmy nominations for nothing. While we wait for updates you can watch reruns of The Daily Show on Comedy Central to prepare for what's to come.
