Trevor Noah Says It’s ‘Grossly Negligent’ for Democrats to Financially Back Republicans They Think Will Be Easier to Beat (Video)

Trevor Noah does not think Democrats should be helping their Republican opponents in any way with these midterms. In fact, he thinks it’s “grossly negligent” to do so — especially in the form of monetary contributions — if the only reason for that support is making their own campaign easier.

Appearing on “Alex Wagner Tonight” Wednesday, the “Daily Show” host started the discussion by explaining that the reason Donald Trump has not faded out of the media’s eye is because “America has blurred the lines between news and entertainment for so long.” As a result, entertainment itself became the news. “And if there’s one thing Donald Trump has always known how to do, it’s how to be entertaining,” he said.

Noah noted that he thinks the media has definitely learned a lesson from dealing with Trump, but that Democrats running for office definitely have not.

“The fact that there are still Democratic, you know, machines that are funding extreme Republicans, like basically putting them forward. I think it’s gross negligence,” Noah said. “You know, forget everything else that you’re trying to do in life, it is grossly negligent to say, ‘I believe this person is going to destroy democracy. But you know what I’ll do? I’m going to take money that people have donated to our campaigns and use it to prop them up, because I think they will be easier to beat.'”

He continued: “But are you willing to take the risk that this person may be easier to beat? You don’t remember what happened with Donald Trump? It turned out he was a lot harder to beat than you thought.”

Indeed, Democrats have spent a lot of money in this election cycle, boosting far-right candidates they think will be easier to beat. According to Newsweek, as of August this year, Democrats had spent nearly $44 million on advertising campaigns in races across six states, helping far-right candidates win their primaries.
