Travel + Leisure Readers' 5 Favorite Hotels in Bangkok of 2024
The best hotels in Thailand’s capital offer escape and an unparalleled sense of the surrounding city, say T+L voters in the "World's Best Awards" survey for 2024.
Travelers come to Bangkok for its gleaming temples, delicious food, and colorful markets. Travel + Leisure readers cherish the city’s distinguished urban retreats for their blend of pampering service and cultural connection.
How Voting Works
Every year for our World's Best Awards survey, T+L asks readers to weigh in on travel experiences around the globe — to share their opinions on the top hotels, resorts, cities, islands, cruise ships, spas, airlines, and more. Over 186,000 T+L readers completed the 2024 survey. A total of more than 700,000 votes were cast across over 8,700 properties (hotels, cities, cruise lines, etc.).
Hotels were classified as either resort hotel, city hotel, inn, or safari lodge based on their location and amenities, and they were specifically rated on the criteria below:
Rooms/facilities
Location
Service
Food
Value
For each characteristic, respondents could choose a rating of excellent, above average, average, below average, or poor. The final scores are averages of these responses.
What Readers Loved
The high scores in this race indicate just how rich teeming Bangkok is in cosseting retreats. “The property offers a city escape within the city itself,” said one reader of the Capella Bangkok (No. 2). Another praised its cultural activities “that make me feel connected to the local culture.” Across the board, warm service distinguished reader favorites including the Four Seasons Hotel Bangkok at Chao Phraya River (No. 3), about which one voter wrote, “No matter how big or small, everything is taken care of in every possible way.” But it was the historic hall-of-famer Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok that took the top prize. Read on to find out why.
The Winner
Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok
A reader favorite for more than a decade running, the Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok originally opened in 1876 and remains a haven amid the frenzy of the modern city. Located on a prime stretch of the Chao Phraya River, “the charisma of the building” impressed one reader. Others raved for its spa — a specialist in Thai wellness where guests can melt under the hands of a soothing masseuse or sweat it out in a Muay Thai boxing class. Lovers of the hotel praised “out of this world service,” in the words of one reviewer. “The staff helped with advice on various markets we wanted to visit,” said another. “From top to bottom, this was a premier experience.”
