When you want to stock your freezer with frozen treats to help get through summer's hot temps, a trip to Trader Joe’s will help you do it. The store’s freezer section is always filled with delicious ice creams, bars, and other cold, sweet treats.

Some of those treats seem to always be in stock, such as the Sublime Ice Cream Sandwiches that store shoppers say are the best sweet treat in the store. Others, such as the recent Banana Pudding-Flavored Ice Cream, are limited-time offerings.

The good thing about many of TJ’s limited-time offerings is that they return. The recent banana pudding ice cream comes and goes, seemingly yearly (and already seems to be gone this year). Another favorite summer treat, full of nostalgic flavor in a new form, is back this year, and fans are excited.

Is This the Summer of Root Beer?

Last month, Blue Bell announced a collaboration with A&W Root Beer for its Root Beer Float Ice Cream, described as “creamy vanilla ice cream swirled together with an A&W Root Beer flavored sherbet.” Those who made comments such as “My stomach just smiled” about the ice cream will smile about Trader Joe’s new treat, too.

Now, Instagram’s trader_joes_treasure_hunt has alerted followers to the return of Root Beer Float bars, vanilla ice cream surrounded by a root beer-flavored ice pop, all on a stick.

“Root beer on a stick is genius! Somehow you get the fizz, rich root beer flavor and creamy vanilla ice cream all in one bite!” the Instagram post’s caption read, indicating they were a “new invention.” A little research shows that these bars aren’t brand new. Trader Joe’s sold them last summer, too.

That small detail is unimportant to those dying to get their hands on this beverage-inspired treat on a stick.

“Oh we LOVED these!!” one commenter squealed and another added, “Been waiting all year for these about to head to my local TJ!”

“Just unlocked a childhood memorie. Thank you,” commented one excited root beer float lover.

No Trader Joe's? No Problem

For the one commenter who asked, “Can you get them through the mail?” because there’s no Trader Joe’s nearby, we have an alternative for you. Try these DIY Root Beer Float Ice Pops made with root beer, sugar, and evaporated milk. They may look different than the TJ’s version, but they have a similar vibe going with the sweet, the milk, and the root beer.
