New in town: WAFFLES ‘N’ SCOOPS – Ice-cream cafe with yummy buttermilk waffles in Ang Mo Kio

I’ve been excited to try out and write about this joint at it’s located right in the smack of my neighbourhood. Presenting to you WAFFLES ‘N’ SCOOPS, a hole-in-the-wall dessert spot which has just opened to the public on 24 Dec 2022 in Ang Mo Kio.

Although the space was small and minimalistic with just 3 tables and a couple of chairs, it still felt cosy enough for me to let my hair down while checking out the ice-cream flavours they offered.

There were about 9 different kinds of flavours available with 3 different tiers on the menu. The Classics (S$4 for single, S$7.50 for double) had flavours like French Vanilla Bean, Belgium Chocolate, Strawberries & Cream and Matcha Green Tea.

The Premium ($4.80 per scoop) flavours had 3 choices: Earl Grey, Pistachio and Taro Yam.

I contemplated for a long time before deciding on their Seasonal Special (S$5.30 per scoop) flavours: Ondeh Ondeh and Sea Salt Toffee with Cookie Crunch. I added a buttermilk Waffle (S$4.50) to go with it.

The aromatic fragrance from the waffles permeated the air as they were magically created on the waffle maker machine.

The waffles came artfully stacked, one on top of the other, with a simple drizzle of maple syrup and ice cream. Nothing fancy like colourful sprinkles or rainbow unicorns, just simple and on-point (the way I like it).

The Ondeh Ondeh ice cream was interesting. It was filled with chewy bits of mochi-like jelly and there was a light pandan and coconut flavour to it. The Sea Salt Toffee with Cookie Crunch was my favourite.

The subtle saltiness complemented the sweet caramelised flavours of the toffee really well and the satisfying crispy cookie bits added textural bites.

The buttermilk waffles were crispy, fluffy and possessed a satisfying mouthfeel— one of the best I’ve eaten in a long time.

Their menu also features Lava Cake (S$5.50) in varieties like dark chocolate and matcha. If you’re looking for something to drink, they have Chocolate Milkshake (S$6) and Root Beer Float (S$4.50) too!

If you’re in the neighbourhood of Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10, head down to street 43 and give WAFFLES ‘N’ SCOOPS a try. Don’t be fooled by its humble outlook, the sweet treats here will blow your mind!
