New in town: Siësta – 2 polytechnic students open cafe at Bugis with quirky dishes

At first glance, Siësta appears as just one among several new cafes located at Sultan Gate, Bugis. This Muslim-owned cafe features a warm ambience adorned with vintage couches and wooden furnishings. While it offers standard cafe dishes likes toasties, loaded fries, desserts, and beverages, the surprising twist lies in its ownership: the cafe is managed by two 17-year-old polytechnic students named Qays Zara and Aesha Patel.

Siësta - Vibes

Qays and Aesha’s lively Gen-Z flair is unmistakably reflected in Siësta’s whimsical menu design, embellished with delightful cartoon sketches. They offer a diverse range of 4 toasties: the indulgent 3 Cheeeze Crisp (S$14), the flavourful Beefin’ It Up toastie (S$16), the unique Plus Sixty Five (S$14), and the delectable Cinnamon Girl dessert (S$10), complemented with cinnamon and yoghurt.

Siësta - Toasties

The menu’s imaginative dishes, with clever names conceived by the pair, are sure to bring a smile to your face. Inspired by a Wes Anderson film, The French Dispatch (S$14) presents truffle fries sprinkled with parmigiano, while Say Cheese? (S$14) entices your taste buds with its gooey melted cheese fries.

The restaurant’s playful wordplay and nods to pop culture references nearly every item on Siësta’s menu. Fancy some tacos? Opt for the Going Loco (S$14), a grilled spicy chicken taco. If fiery chicken wings are calling your name, look no further than the Huh Cheetos? (S$12) for a spicy treat.

Siësta - Drinks

Other than toasties and quick bites, customers can also order drinks to complete their meal. Try Shrek’s Love Potion (S$8), a dirty matcha oat milk latte topped off with a dash of cinnamon. Or the Suparwoman Energy Drink (S$8) which is a mix of pomegranate, cranberry, apple, freshly squeezed lime, and chia seeds.

Other drinks available include Goldslick (S$8), Hypnotise Me (S$8), Killmonggaaa (S$8), Heart Racing (S$8), Last Summer (S$8), and Little Darling (S$8).

Support these hardworking teens and order yourself a quirky toastie (and more) today!
