New in town: Roxy Bar, Marina Bay — Party like it’s 1970 with David Bowie-inspired drinks

No, not Roxy Square, even though there is a great secret spa there but, today we are taking you to schmooze in the cool, bohemian vibes of Roxy Bar. The journey starts with an unmarked door at The Sail at Marina Bay; you know I live for intrigue, so we are already off to a good start.

Even better, you can enter Roxy Bar through the back of Miss Fitz. All this cloak and dagger action brings you to a 20-seat hidden enclave that immediately transports you back to the 1970s in The Big Apple. You’ll hear the bass of classic rock n roll, early glam bands, original punk rock, and emerging disco of the era. It’s the kind of music you can groove and chill out to.

What’s a bar without a couple of tipples to knock back? At Roxy Bar, their cocktail menu combines the simplicity of spirit-forward, classic drinks typical of an old-world back room bar with a glamorous twist of 1970’s rock n roll. Now, that was truly a mouthful. There are three distinct categories you can choose from; their signature cocktails, classic cocktail flights, and boilermakers (a beer and a shot combo).

I would love to get my hands on this beauty, the Jean Genie (S$22). A twist on the classic daiquiri that’s adorned with a snowy pear power on the rim, it’s a drink that encompasses an imagined Americana much like the David Bowie song of the same name. If not, the CBGB Swizzle (S$23) serves as a riff on the classic Mai Tai named for the Lower East Side Manhattan Club known as the birthplace of punk music.

No bar is complete without their assortment of bar bites. At Roxy Bar, they’ve got you covered. The bites here are variations on iconic New York foods. Snack on the Bagel Popcorn (S$8) that’s taken a roll around that iconic everything but the bagel seasoning. Or classic New York grub like the Pastrami Sandwich Bites (S$8) and Hot Dog With Diced Onions & Cheese (S$8). At Roxy Bar, the good times keep rolling.
