The chimney cake or, as Rollney calls them, the Kurtos Roll is a centuries-old dessert that can be traced back to Hungarians who lived in Transylvania, Romania. Hungary has even officially dubbed Kurtos their official dessert.

The cake is cylindrical, mimicking a chimney, thus the name. It has a crisp exterior and fluffy insides. At Rollney, they are handmade and baked fresh daily.

Tan Yee Ke, the founder, aims to share the experience of fallingl in love with Kurtos Rolls. He spent 3 months in Hungary learning about the culture and baking process. Once he was ready, he started his store in his home country of Malaysia, and now is bringing Rollney’s iconic treats to Singapore.

One of them is the Kurtos (S$3 without toppings, S$3.50 for 1 sauce topping), which comes in Original, Cinnamon and Chocolate. There are 13 different sauces such as creamy butterscotch to pick from.

If you’re more into savoury delights, you can opt for the versions filled with ingredients like hot chilli chicken sausages and tuna. Rollney even has plant-based spam for vegetarians.

Next up on the menu is their speciality dessert, the Kurtos Ice Cream (S$5 with 1 topping, S$5.50 with 2 toppings). This treat is a serving of soft-serve low-fat Hokkaido Milk or Royal Chocolate ice cream atop a Kurtos instead of a cone.

Both ice creams can be customised to your liking with 20 types of toppings from classics like Oreo crumbs and strawberries, Premium Toppings (additional S$0.50) and Extra premium toppings (additional S$0.50) like Lotus crumbs, Belgian dark chocolate and Japanese Matcha.

Rollney also offers a good deal of drink choices for customers, from frappes to coffees.
