New in town: Restoran New World – Viral Claypot Lala Hotpot at HK-inspired spot!
Say selamat tinggal to crossing the border for this viral Malaysian charcoal-heated claypot favourite. Offering satisfying servings of Lala Hotpot that are perfect for rare rainy days, Restoran New World has opened in Upper Serangoon.
Get transported to a world of old-school nostalgia! Sporting a signboard with neon lights, your next hotpot spot is adorned with posters of famous Hong Kong celebs like Stephen Chow and Cecilia Cheung. You cannot miss the Cantonese or Chinese pop songs playing in the background too.
Smell something? That is probably the de-lala-cious hotpot. Infused with the natural sweetness of lala, the Charcoal Lala Hotpot (S$26.90) features a rich broth that is beloved for notes of umami. Another soup-erb base will be the Chicken & Pig Stomach Hotpot (S$29.90), also referred to as 猪肚鸡. Akin to the warmth of a comforting Bak Kut Teh, the peppery broth greatly complements a fragrant bowl of white Rice (S$1.20).
What is a hotpot without ingredients? From staples to premiums, Restoran New World offers a variety of succulent meat, fresh seafood and crisp vegetables. Just to name a few, think savoury Chicken Franks (S$2.80), tender Shabu Beef (S$7.80), classic Pak Choi (S$2.80), iconic Yaki Chikuwa (S$4) and addictive Pig Skin (S$4).
Seafood aficionados, this one is for you. The Seafood Platter (S$28) showcases a smorgasbord of briny delights — Tiger Prawns (U.P. S$12.80), Flower Crab (U.P. S$15.80), Scallop (U.P. S$8.80), Mini Squid (U.P. S$10.80), and platter-exclusive Clams. Worth anot?
Complete your meal with side dishes, which include signatures like Crispy Chicken (S$15.90) and Fried Sotong with Garlic Oil (S$18.90). I got my eye on their Steam Fish (S$16.90), which features a whole fish topped with garlic and served in light soya sauce.
There’s more. While details are still under wraps, word on the street says that Restoran New World is set to expand its menu with a dazzling array of dim sum!
Swee, new breakfast spot also?
