New in town: 李姐的店 (Li Jie De Dian) — Cafeteria serving grilled fish with 6 soup bases, braised pork rice & chwee kueh
Wow! It seems like my neighbourhood is slowly growing into a foodie’s paradise. 李姐的店 (Li Jie De Dian) is a 52-seater eatery at Ang Mo Kio Ave 10 that soft-launched on 18 Apr 2023.
The self-service cafeteria is located along the same row as WAFFLE ‘N’ SCOOPS. It’s decked in turquoise and white, complete with terrazzo tables and wooden rattan chairs.
The menu has 2 breakfast items consisting of Chwee Kueh (S$3) and Chee Cheong Fun (S$2.50) which starts selling at 8.30am till sold out.
Previously, I didn’t have a good experience with the Laksa (S$6) when I had it at home. I felt it was overly spicy and the portion was measly. I decided to give them another try and headed there to dine-in.
I ordered the Braised Meat Rice (S$6.80) which came with a pile of braised pork belly, half a braised egg, and pickled vegetables with a mound of short-grain rice lying underneath.
The meat was soft and extremely well-seasoned with notes of star anise. The pickled veggies reduced the richness of the meat and rice with its acidic punch. It was delicious!
For the noodles, you’re given a choice of Sliced Pork Belly, Pork Intestine, Sliced Beef and Luncheon Meat (S$6.80 each). I ordered the Delicious Tomato Rice Noodle with Luncheon Meat.
The noodles were a thinner version of laksa noodles and had strips of bean curd skin, 2 pieces of luncheon meat, lettuce and sliced tomatoes in a tomato broth.
The broth was tangy and had a gentle garlicky taste to it. The pieces of spam were comforting and had absorbed the tomato broth.
The other noodle options available are Sour & Spicy Golden Rice Noodle, Mushroom Savoury Rice Noodle and Sichuan Pickled Rice Noodle.
The Grilled fish dishes (spotted at almost every table) come in these 3 options:
Half w/o Tail Fish (S$10.80) comes with Chinese cabbage and bean curd skin.
Half w/ Tail Fish (S$11.80) comes with Chinese cabbage and bean curd skin.
Whole Fish (S$21.80) comes with Chinese cabbage, bean curd skin, bean sprouts and sliced potato.
Once you’re done choosing, you can go ahead and pick from their 6 flavours of hot pot soups which include Spicy Fragrant, Pickled Sichuan and Mushroom Savoury.
I urge you to give 李姐的店 (Li Jie De Dian) a try if you’re living around the Ang Mo Kio vicinity. I’m ordering the Braised Meat Rice for sure during my next visit!
