New in town: Dou — 24h yong tau foo stall opens in Tam Chiak Kopitiam

Need a soothing pick-me-up while you’re burning the midnight oil? Hougang residents, you’re in luck. You can now add yong tau foo to your list of options with the opening of Dou, a 24-hour YTF stall in the famed Tam Chiak Kopitiam.

Dou’s opening was first announced on 21 Mar 2024 via posts on Tam Chiak Kopitiam‘s Instagram and Facebook pages. Its slated opening date had been 1 Apr 2024 but was brought forward to 30 Mar 2024.

“[They’re] opening on 30 March instead just so that you won’t think it is [an] April fool’s joke lol,” the page humorously replied to a comment on the post.

There’s a chance that this isn’t the first time you’ve heard of Dou. They currently have several halal-certified outlets islandwide, including ones in Ang Mo Kio, Jurong West and Bukit Panjang, all of which are open 24 hours daily.

It’s also worth mentioning that they’re the sister brand of the popular Meixi’s Kitchen, which is known for its Hakka yong tau foo.

Dou takes over the space formerly occupied by Korean stall Oppa Kitchen. With a cute bubble-lettered logo and a vibrant front, the stall certainly fits right in at the aesthetically pleasing Tam Chiak Kopitiam.

Dou’s Traditional Set with 5 ingredients sets you back just S$5. It comes with your choice of Rice or Noodles such as some classic yellow noodles, maggie mee or thin glass noodles.

As with other YTF stalls, you’ll get your pick from an array of items such as meat-stuffed chillies, stuffed bitter gourd and tender handmade meatballs. Here, the ingredients are done Hakka-style and are stuffed with either chicken or fish paste.

You can also expect to have your belly warmed by a rich umami broth that’s said to be simmered overnight with soybeans and fragrant dried flounder. Still, if you’d like to spice up your meal, you can opt for LaksaTom Yum or even Mala soup instead for an additional S$1.

So, the next time you’re looking to quell some late-night hunger pangs, you know where to look.
