Matcha and mochi ice cream lovers, you’re in luck as Cafe USAGI Tokyo recently opened in late Dec 2022 at Suntec City serving exactly that and then some.
Cafe USAGI Tokyo was opened by a Japanese food and beverage brand producer who relocated to Singapore. Despite being relatively new, a second outlet is currently in the works, this time at 111 Somerset though no official opening dates have been announced.
Their Matcha (S$5.50) uses high-quality Uji Matcha, imported directly from Japan. As the name suggests, the matcha powder is from the city of Uji located in Kyoto. The city is renowned for its tea and is widely considered to produce the best matcha. If you prefer something creamier, you can opt for the Matcha Latte (S$6.80) which is available in both hot and cold versions.
Other hot tea and cold brew options includes Sencha Pot (S$7.50), Lavender Hojicha Pot (S$7.90), Genmaicha Pot (S$7.50), Hojicha Latte (S$6.80) and Rose Sencha Pot (S$7.90).
For desserts, there’s the Signature Mochi Ice Cream (S$6) that comes in 2 flavours: Vanilla and Matcha. There is also Japanese-flavoured hand-crafted ice cream made using Hokkaido milk. Some of the flavours are Lavender Hojicha, Samurai Blue Sea Salt, Hokkaido Milk & Milk and Honkaku Uji Matcha.
A single scoop of ice cream is S$5 while a double will set you back at S$8. You can also opt to wrap your scoop with their homemade chewy Mochi Skin ($1) or even have a USAGI Strawberry Mochi (S$6.90) which is mochi-wrapped strawberry with red bean paste.
Should you prefer something warm for dessert, you go for their Original Waffle with Kuromitsu (S$6.50) which also comes with a Maple Syrup option.
What a way to usher in the Year of the Rabbit with a rabbit cafe!
