Buey Tahan See-Food Restaurant which was launched on 1 June 2022 at Downtown East is owned by a company with the same branding, which sells affordable seafood and zhi char at heartland coffeeshops around Singapore.
Void decks in the past had mama shops selling various snacks, classic round tables and stools with chess boards that were lined with mosaic, and the metallic rusty letterboxes— so nostalgic! You can now reminisce about these familiar sights here.
The restaurant has a HDB void deck theme— bird cages that double up as lights, the retro-looking letterboxes, round tables and curved stools, the classic orange public phone of the past, and more.
Similar to Mama Diam at Prinsep Street, Buey Tahan See-Food Restaurant @ DTE also has a replica of a mama shop. The only difference is that there is no secret door to a hidden bar. Seafood and all-day breakfast aside, they also offer various zhi char dishes on their zhi char menu that will be available from 12pm to 9.30pm daily. Desserts like waffles and croissants with gelato are also available. Do note that although the menu states “all-day breakfast”, it’s only available from 8am to 2pm daily.
Champion Breakfast (S$12.90)— consists of chicken ham, sautéed mushrooms, chicken chipolata, turkey ham, scrambled eggs, hash brown, tomatoes, toasties, baked beans and mesclun salad. We had recently tried their breakfast set at their Punggol branch and we liked it.
Buey Tahan See-Food Restaurant serves a variety of crabs as well, like Butter Milk Crab (S$35), Chilli Crab (S$35), and Bee Hoon Soup Crab (S$37). Their prices are considered to be lower than a lot of mainstream seafood restaurants that I know of.
Buey Tahan See-Food Restaurant is in the midst of applying for a Halal certification. Curry fish head lovers please take note, they’re selling their Curry Fish Head(UP S$25) at only S$9.90— applicable at their other outlets as well, till 19 June 2022.
With a quirky void deck ambience, good variety of food and drinks, children play area and the availability of retro games, what’s stopping you to pay them a visit? I know I will.
