"Top Gun" sequel casts Miles Teller as Goose's son

Miles Teller is playing Goose's son in "Top Gun: Maverick".

5 Jul – Looks like another actor has been added to the Tom Cruise-starring "Top Gun: Maverick", and it is none other than Miles Teller.

The 31-year-old will be playing the son of Maverick's R.I.O. (Radar Intercept Officer) Nick "Goose" Bradshaw, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Teller beat out other actors who have been vying for the coveted role, including Nicholas Hoult ("X-Men" trilogy) and Glen Powell ("Hidden Figures"). Dylan O'Brien ("Maze Runner" trilogy) and Austin Butler ("Dude") were also previously considered during the early stage.

News of the sequel featuring Goose's son in a supporting role was first revealed last October, with his character listed as being in the range of 20- to 29-year-old.

Goose was portrayed by Anthony Edwards in the 1986 original. He died in an accident and is survived by his wife Carole (Meg Ryan) and 4-year-old son Bradley (played by twins Aaron and Adam Weiss), who is credited as Wrigley in the sequel (though this could change once the movie is officially wrapped).

The upcoming sequel, aside from once again starring Tom Cruise as Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, will also see Val Kilmer reprising his role as Tom "Iceman" Kazansky.

"Top Gun: Maverick" is set to fly onto the North American big screen on 12 July 2019.
