Tony Leung amasses over a million followers on Douyin
1 Feb – Tony Leung Chiu Wai proves that he is still a Hong Kong superstar by amassing more than a million followers ten hours after he joined Douyin (aka China's TikTok).
On 30 January, the "Shang-Chi" star shared his first video on the platform, and expressed, "There are a lot of things I really want to share with others, but I don't know how to say them. Since my eyes can speak, then I will just keep looking at you like this. Not only talking with my eyes, but also with a heart that wants to see you."
His arrival on the platform was celebrated by fellow actor Andy Lau, himself a user of Douyin for the past three years.
Andy expressed, "I thought I would have to wait for you for three years, another three years and another three years, but I didn't expect you to arrive so soon. Thank you, Wai Jai, and I hope you can share your life and wonderful moments with everyone on Douyin."
Meanwhile, fans took to the comments and asked the actor not to do what other celebrities would do on the platform - selling goods and merchandise on live stream, that is.
"You are a movie royalty, I hope you won't sell goods live," said one netizen.
"Make good movies, don't sell goods," said another.
