Toma Ikuta honoured to star in "The Dry Spell"
6 Sep – After many years in the making, Toma Ikuta's new movie, "The Dry Spell" is finally released.
As reported on Epoch Times, the actor, who plays the lead in the movie based on the novel of the same name by Mitsuru Kawabayashi, stated that he fell in love with the story after reading the book.
Directed by Masaya Takahashi, the film highlights child poverty and shows the struggles of children living below the poverty line. Toma plays the role of a government waterworks employee whose job is to cut off the water supply to households that have not paid their bills. In the course of his job, he meets two young sisters Keiko and Kumiko who have been abandoned by their parents.
"There is a problem of the gap between the rich and the poor in any era. This work is still quite close to reality. Although the story is a bit heavy, people can still see a glimmer of hope in it thanks to the director's adaptation skills. I am honoured to participate in such a work," Toma expressed.
He also shared his favourite scene, which was the scene where the two child actors pretended to swim in a swimming pool without water, saying, "This scene impressed me deeply."
