Tipo Gnocchi – 28 Jan last day for beloved gnocchi bar
If you’re a gnocchi lover or a pasta fanatic, this might be a tough one to swallow. Tipo Gnocchi will be shutting the doors of its shop along North Bridge Road on 28 Jan.
Tipo first announced the closure on their Facebook and Instagram accounts on 29 Dec 2023. While they did not give a reason, they claimed that Tipo Gnocchi “was always a risk”. However, in the same posts, they asserted that they’ll keep the concept in mind and might consider bringing gnocchi favourites to another Tipo joint.
The specialty gnocchi bar first opened in Aug 2022 as Singapore’s first. It’s a concept restaurant that’s part of the Tipo chain of pasta-centric joints, including Tipo Osteria and Pasta Bar. These restaurants are well-known and loved for their variety of handmade pasta and customisable pasta bowls.
Handmade fresh daily from a kneaded dough of potatoes and flour, the gnocchi at Tipo is light and airy with a soft and mildly chewy bite.
Like its pasta counterparts, Tipo Gnocchi allows you to Build-Your-Own Gnocchi (from S$12), with your choice of sauce and toppings. Crowd favourites include the Pink Sauce and add-ons like Truffle Oil (S$2), Sous Vide Egg (S$2) and Duck Ragu (S$4).
If you’re feeling uninspired, they also offer House Specials such as the Seafood Kombu (S$28) – Japanese-style gnocchi in a yuzu-clam broth, and the Beef Chipotle (S$22) starring gnocchi in a smoky bolognese sauce.
While Tipo Gnocchi will indeed be missed, I certainly won’t lose hope for the possibility of a comeback. In the meantime, get your fill of their gnocchi while they’re still there!
