Tiffany Pollard didn't like the nickname 'New York' at first: 'I f---ing hated it'

Tiffany Pollard didn't always love New York.

The television personality is known around the world by her nickname "New York," thanks to her unforgettable stints on Flavor of Love, I Love New York, and Celebrity Big Brother. The name was bestowed upon her by Flavor Flav after he learned she hailed from Utica, N.Y.

During an interview on EW's 3 Rounds video series, the House of Villains star reveals that her feelings toward her nickname weren't always positive. "I f---ing hated it!" she tells host Alexis Wilson. "I'm like, 'Why is he calling me New York?'"

Pollard was dissatisfied with her nickname due to its distinction from the other Flavor of Love competitors. "You're giving this one the name of Bubbles, and Delicious, and all these sexual names," she recalls. "But as soon as I told him I'm from upstate New York, he goes, 'Oh, I'm just gonna call you New York.'"

Initially, Pollard hoped for a flashier moniker. "I wanted him to call me, like, Snookums or something," she says.

Her tune changed once she found that it could represent a deeper meaning that reflected her personality rather than her home state. "I thought it was so boring and bland, until I walked into it… and then after a while, everybody remembered my name, and it was like, no, New York stands for the bright lights, the city, you know, your energy, and how you deliver, so then it made sense," she tells EW. "But I didn't love it right away 'cause I didn't get it."

Pollard currently stars on House of Villains on E!
