Taika Waititi has a cool cameo in ‘Thor 3’.

And it’s not quite what you might expect.

According to Slashfilm, the director of ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ Taika Waititi has given himself a pretty cool cameo in the upcoming movie… but it’s a bit of a weird one.

“During my visit to the offices of Marvel Studios yesterday, I learned that director Taika Waititi has cast himself as Korg in Thor: Ragnarok,” they revealed. “The filmmaker hinted at the character’s appearance in the film during production, but his role had been kept under wraps… and it looks great.”

Who is Korg?

Well, he’s a character who appears in the ‘Planet Hulk’ comic books, and we’ve already seen hints at the Kronan warrior’s existence in ‘Thor: The Dark World’ where a familiar-looking creature appeared as an Easter egg.

But it seems that version is being ‘written off’ as merely another Kronan warrior.

So how does Korg fit into ‘Thor: Ragnarok’?

It sounds as though we’ll be meeting him when Thor enters the gladiatorial arenas on Sakaar.

“Korg is a giant rock warrior who is a warm-up gladiator in the Grandmaster’s Contest of Champions,” they explain. “Korg is pretty intimidating, standing about eight feet tall, made of grey-looking rocks, and sporting a brown gladiator armor costume with red spray war paint markings (a cross with a circle).”

“Taika jokes that he’s wearing a 2017 male bikini. The concept art we saw also showed the character with a huge staff. In an animation test, Korg used it as a bat, clobbering his enemies into the distance.”

Apparently, Thor will befriend Korg when he appears on Sakaar… and the rock warrior helps explain exactly what’s happening on Sakaar as the God of Thunder gets up to speed.

“While the Kronan looks physically intimidating, he is super helpful and overly friendly,” they explain. “Waititi’s comic timing is brilliant, and if you’ve seen his roles in his previous films, then you have an idea of what to expect.”

It certainly sounds as though Waititi had fun with this.

Korg is described as being physically intimidating, but super helpful and overly friendly… and the director explains that he based Korg’s personality on Polynesian nightclub bouncers.

“They are very endearing, but you don’t want to fuck with them.”

And it seems he’s not alone, either.

Another ‘Planet Hulk’ character Miek will appear alongside him – a mute sidekick in the form of a giant insect creature with a crab mouth and a black and red exoskeleton with knives for hands and bionic legs.

‘Thor: Ragnarok’ stars Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Cate Blanchett, Jeff Goldblum, Karl Urban and Mark Ruffalo.

Taika Waititi directed the movie based on a script by Eric Pearson.

‘Thor: Ragnarok’ heads to cinemas on 27 October 2017.
