Theme park creates Mount Fuji viewing deck on top of giant roller coaster
One of the top sightseeing spots in Japan is none other than the majestic Mount Fuji. There are a few ways to check out this active volcano, including taking a “flight to nowhere” to see it from a bird’s-eye view. An upcoming option to get an unrestricted view of Mount Fuji is from a viewing deck that sits at the top of the Fujiyama roller coaster at the Fuji-Q Highland amusement park in Yamanashi prefecture.
The giant roller coaster reaches a peak height of 79 metres, being the eighth highest in the world, and features a breathtaking view of Mount Fuji as it makes a brief U-turn before a deep plunge. However, in order for non-riders to enjoy this view too, Fuji-Q Highland decided to build the Fujiyama Tower.
The Fujiyama Tower presents three experiences with a range of thrill factors. First, there is the family-friendly Fujiyama Sky Deck that offers panoramic views of Mount Fuji at a height of about 55 metres.
Next, courageous visitors can put on a harness and challenge themselves with the Fujiyama Walk — an exposed walkway without handrails. This is like a whole new level of high-element activity, definitely not for the acrophobic!
The last one is Fujiyama Slider, where visitors can slide through a tube that wraps around the elevator shaft at the centre of the tower, from the viewing deck all the way down to the ground!
Costing around 1.07 billion yen (about S$13.7 million) to build, the Fujiyama Tower is scheduled to open in the summer of 2021.
