The Singapore Edition review: A serene and understated elegance
The buzzy Singapore Edition offers a tranquil escape, lined with tree-shaded boulevards and marbled emporia.
With its arrival just off the western fringe of Singapore's illustrious upper Orchard Road, The Singapore Edition caused a stir of sophisticated delight. The Edition hotel brand is about a unique and individual luxury hotel experience. Edition hotels around the world are designed to feel special and one-of-a-kind, but with the backing of Marriott International for global reach and expertise. Envisioned by Ian Schrager, an American entrepreneur, each Edition hotel is designed to give guests a feel for the local culture and social scene.
And that's no exception for The Singapore Edition: the 204-room hotel was dreamed up by renowned Safdie Architects led by Moshe Safdie and local studio DP Architects. Firmly rooted in the Edition brand’s strong sense of refined, timeless design and style, The Singapore Edition – the first Southeast Asia outpost in the stable - seamlessly blends the dynamism energy of a major metropolitan city with a warm-weather resort sensibility.
Reasons to stay in The Singapore Edition
The buzzy Singapore Edition offers a tranquil escape, lined with tree-shaded boulevards and marbled emporia. As you enter, The Singapore Edition unfolds before you. A symphony of cool white marble graces the lobby, its pristine elegance punctuated by the breathtaking rise of a gilded dome overhead. Clay-potted plantation louvres lined beside floor-to-ceiling windows draped with linen curtains. The interior design reminded me of the Aztec civilisation. Imagine a burst of life! Think fiery reds, ochres that echo the earth, and deep blacks for dramatic contrast. These colours are often used in strong blocks or geometric patterns.

The inviting space features a grand, circular staircase crafted from marble. This elegant ascent leads you towards a light-filled observatory overlooking lush greenery. Adjoining this unique space is a grand ballroom, perfect for large gatherings. Additionally, there are flexible meeting rooms that can be sectioned off to suit your specific needs.
Upon entering, the reception area on your far right presented a serene and understated atmosphere. I completed a brief check-in process, signing the necessary documents, before being escorted to my room.
My guest room exudes a sense of modernity and calmness and none of that Aztec style we saw covered in the lounge area. White rugs dress the white-oak planked floors and hand-sewn damask throws swathe the beds. While the hotel room's style embraced a minimalist aesthetic, the lounge area stood out with its symmetry in design, creating a clear distinction between the serene intimacy of the room and the vibrant energy of the social space.
Within the impeccably designed bathroom, a symphony of gold accents dances across a canvas of white marble, creating a haven of luxurious elegance, complete with his and her vanities. The bathroom amenities were duly concocted for The Singapore Edition by New York brand Le Labo.
For munchies, head to Fysh, a timber-lined restaurant spearheaded by Josh Niland, an Australian restaurateur, multi-award-winning chef, and author. The restaurant features an impressive sustainable seafood-focused steakhouse menu alongside responsibly sourced vegetables and meats. From fin to gills, Niland aims to cultivate a sustainable menu by using whole fish in his dishes.
If you're feeling adventurous, order the Valrhona chocolate macaron with yellowfin tuna eye ice cream or the Fysh martini that's shaken with fish-by ingredients. We chose and finished off the grilled Abrolhos island scallop, clams with fish bone noodles and the absolutely scrumptious yellowfin tuna fillet steak.
For those who like to tipple, head to Punch Room, which is adjacent to the eye-popping Lobby Bar. The intimate bar shimmers in a veil of Yves Klein blue, a velvety caress that promises a sophisticated escape. The whole space channels the intimate mood of a classic London gentleman’s club serving brandy with a modern and deviant approach. The cosmopolitan vibe is enhanced by a handsome bronze bar behind which the mixologist shakes up a unique punch cocktail menu inspired by Southeast Asian spices and imaginative bar snacks.
From design to food and art, The Singapore Edition involve creative partners to give guests a one-of-a-kind experience that is felt throughout the hotel. From power meetings to indulgent staycations or milestone celebrations, The Singapore Edition caters to the city's most discerning guests, ensuring an experience that transcends mere satisfaction.
