The Bookies Reckon Spotlight Will Beat The Revenant At The Oscars

Everybody’s talking about Leonardo DiCaprio’s intense survivalist drama, and whether or not it will finally land the actor his much-desired Academy Award - but if you’re the betting type, there’s another film getting better odds to win Best Picture.

The bookies think that ‘The Revenant’ will likely lose out to ‘Spotlight’ for the top gong of the night on 28 February.

As reported by The Guardian, director Tom McCarthy’s fact-based film about how The Boston Globe exposed child abuse in the Catholic Church is the favourite to win Best Picture at William Hill (odds of 4/5) and Paddy Power (5/6).

‘The Revenant’ comes up second favourite, with odds of 13/8 at both the aforementioned bookmakers.

‘Spotlight’ is also favourite to scoop Best Original Screenplay (odds around ¼) for McCarthy and co-writer Josh Singer.

Still, Leo is the favourite to nab Best Actor (1/7 or 1/8 at most bookies) and ‘The Revenant’ director Alejandro González Iñárritu is also favourite for Best Director - which, if successful, would give the ‘Birdman’ helmsman his second Oscar in as many years.

In the Best Actress race, ‘Room’s Brie Larson gets the best odds at 1/3, whilst ‘Creed’s Sylvester Stallone and ‘Carol’s Rooney Mara are the favourites for the supporting actor and actress Oscars.
