YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: Linda Hamilton’s historic farm property in the itty-bitty rural community of Lucketts, VA, — about an hours drive northwest of Washington, D.C. and dubbed “Sunnyside Farm”— came up for sale last fall at $1.299 million and, as we first heard from Vlad the Revealer at Celebrity Address Aerial, the bucolic spread is now in escrow to be sold for an unknown amount. The 25.1-acre spread, originally part of a much larger land grant and a working farm for 200-or-so years before it was sold to a developer in 1972, was purchased by the “Terminator” and Terminator 2” star in February 2012 for $998,000.
Current listing details show the partly clapboard-sided farmhouse measures in at 4,608 square feet with five bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms, and a whopping seven fireplaces. The original part of the house, a log cabin that dates to around 1775, now serves as the residence’s roomy library with rustic wide plank wood floors, red brick fireplace, and simply constructed floor-to-ceiling bookshelves. Other living and entertaining spaces include a sitting room with marble-faced fireplace, formal dining room with a massive red brick fireplace that does not appear to be functional, and a family room with charcoal slate tile floors and French doors to a dining deck. At least two of the four guest bedrooms have fireplaces and the large if low-ceiled seeming master bedroom, furnished in listing photos with not one but four dressers, is plenty spacious enough to accommodate a generous sitting area while the attached bathroom has a double sink vanity, claw-footed bathtub, and unimaginatively quotidian beige ceramic floor tiles.
Like all wrap-around porches on historic 18th and 19th-century farmhouses in the south arguably ought to be, Miz Hamilton’s is fetchingly lined with old fashioned spindle frame rocking chairs that look out over the bucolic property that includes broad sweeps of rolling lawns, a spring-fed creek, and 15-or-so-acres of four board fenced pastures. The farm’s numerous agrarian-oriented outbuildings include a 1850s bank barn with water and electric, an historic blacksmith shop, a three-stall run-in shed with tack room and horse stable, poultry house — another name for a big ol’ chicken coop — and a detached garage with workshop area.
Miz Hamilton, whose recent professional endeavors include recurring roles in a number of television series (“Chuck,” “Defiance,” and “Lost Girls”), previously owned a spacious single-story Mediterranean villa on 1.1-acres estate on Malibu’s star-favored Point Dume that she sold in 2012 for $4 million and our research indicates she continues to own a relatively unassuming gulf-front residence on Casey Key in Nokomis, FL, — that would be just south of Sarasota — that last sold in August 2003 for $850,000.
