Teen star Therese Malvar didn't expect to win in Moscow

The "Hamog" actress hopes to do more challenging roles in future

26 Jul - Teen actress Therese Malvar spoke for the first time about her recent Best Actress victory at the 2016 Moscow International Film Festival, saying that it was an unexpected win for her.

According to Rappler, the 15-year-old, who was announced the winner earlier this month while she was in New York to accept the Rising Star Asia Award at the New York Asian Film Festival, stated that she only received the news during a layover in Vancouver.

"I was grumpy because I just wanted to sleep, so I didn't process the news about our win in Moscow," said Malvar, who added that it was her mother who was screaming excitedly at the airport upon receiving the news.

The teen star also revealed that she was treated to French fries and milkshake at the hotel she was staying in New York after they heard about the news.

It was a great moment for Malvar, who won the award for her role in "Hamog", as her character – a street kid called Jinky – was a difficult one to play.

"She was very different [from me], so it was hard to play her. There were scenes that I was too embarrassed to do, but managed to do it anyway," she said.

As for her future projects, Malvar said that she just finished a movie and will begin filming a teleseries.

She also hopes to play more intense roles and work in more challenging movies in the future.
