‘The Tap’ USA Drama Pilot From Rob Reiner & Andrew Lenchewski Sets Cast; Simon Cellan Jones To Direct

USA Network’s The Tap drama pilot from Rob Reiner and Royal Pains co-creator/executive producer Andrew Lenchewski, has set its cast and hired Simon Cellan Jones (Boardwalk Empire) to direct. Colin Woodell, Erinn Westbrook, Ginny Gardner and David Corenswet will play the lead roles.

Written by Lenchewski and Aaron Tracy (Sequestered), The Tap is set at the most famous secret society in American college history, Yale’s Skull and Bones. The drama takes place around 1969, during the height of America’s cultural and political revolution — a time when the campus is being upended by antiwar protests, race riots and the arrival of its first female students.

Woodell will play Jay Butler, who’s looking to secure his future by joining Skull and Bones, Yale’s most elite, and powerful secret society. Despite not having the pedigree of his classmates, Jay is ambitious, highly intelligent, and willing to do whatever it takes to escape his past. Woodell recently recurred on Masters of Sex and soon will be seen in Designated Survivor later this fall. He is repped by Innovative Artists.

Westbrook will portray Gloria Murphy is one of Yale’s first female students, and one of the few black students in her class. Raised in the impoverished city of New Haven itself — if Gloria had her way she’d skip undergrad and go straight to law school so she could fight to change the system from within. Westbrook appears on Awkward as Gabby Richards and previously as Head Cheerio Bree on Glee. She also recurred Jane the Virgin. She is repped by APA, Treadwell Entertainment Group andMyman, Greenspan.

Gardner is Michelle Cuttriss, who, along with Gloria, is also part of this historic, inaugural female class. Disgusted and unnerved by the distressing reception she receives on campus, she decides to let everyone know just how unprepared Yale is for her. Gardner can be seen in the film Project Almanac and in the Sundance film Goat. She is repped by UTA, 3 Arts, and Sloan Offer Weber Dern.

Corenswet will play Kirk Lewis, a blue-blooded Skull & Bones legacy. His transformation from WASP prince to hippie warrior will raise more than a few eyebrows back home. Corenswet can be seen as the lead in the independent feature “Public Affairs,” with Adrien Grenier. He is repped by ICM Partners, Untitled Entertainment and Jackoway Tyerman.

The Tap is from executive producers Andrew Lenchewski, Rob Reiner and Alan Greisman of Reiner/Greisman and Charlie Ebersol of The Company. Tracy also serves as co-executive producer. The one-hour drama is from Universal Cable Productions.
