We Need to Talk About the 'Kaleidoscope' EndingNetflix

Like any heist, there’s a lot that can go wrong when watching Netflix’s new crime thriller, Kaleidoscope. The eight-episode series claims that it can be watched in any order, but Kaleidoscope does have a true ending in the “Pink” episode, set six months after the heist takes place. Depending on where that episode lies in your watch order, the fate of the heist’s mastermind, Leo Pap (Giancarlo Esposito), may not be as obvious. Lucky for us sleuths, looking at the series in chronological order helps break down some of those potential loose ends.

At the end of the “Pink” episode, as Leo is shown walking through a tunnel with vibrant pink cherry blossom trees on the other side, a shadowy figure walks up next to him and pulls a gun. The next thing audiences hear is a gunshot—leaving fans to believe that Leo was killed. Even though he pulled off the heist against his former partner, Leo left a memento behind at the end of the “White” episode that would have revealed he did the crime—and presumably paid the price.

The figure that follows Leo into the tunnel has one recognizable piece of clothing on, however, which eagle-eyed viewers were able to find in another episode as well. Around halfway through the “White” episode, Leo’s ex-partner Roger (Rufus Sewell) is seen talking to his son, Brad (Nate Katsuki). In that scene, Brad is wearing the same graphic tee as the figure that follows Leo into the tunnel, meaning that he must have killed Leo as revenge for putting his father in jail. Actor Nate Katsuki’s name even shows up in the credits for the “Pink” episode, despite not making an appearance otherwise. So, it seems that Brad is the one who kills Leo in the end. Bet you didn’t see that coming.

Though Leo may not return for a possible second season of Kaleidoscope, creator Eric Garcia revealed in an interview with SyFy that he would probably return for another story should Netflix renew it as an anthology series. There’s other stories out there,” he said. “There's other ways to Kaleidoscope things, so to speak. And we've got we've got a couple tricks leftover."
