Takuya Kimura debuts on Instagram for pandemic era, gains 1.6 million followers in one week
Following the release of his first music album Go with the Flow since SMAP disbanded, the iconic Takuya Kimura has now taken a big step on social media with the opening of his Instagram account. He was previously active on social media only on Weibo, the Chinese microblogging site.
The Japanese actor-singer set up his Instagram account seven days ago, promptly gaining 1 million followers overnight. His following steadily increased, hitting a high of 1.6 million in a matter of days.
In his first post, Kimura explained that he started an Instagram account to bridge the communication gap with fans around the world during this COVID-19 lockdown period. Using this as a new communication tool, he hopes to share a variety of things moving forward.
By making his Instagram account like a fan club, Kimura plans to post information on his latest activities such as concert details. As soon as things are ready, he will be revealing more. Although he is unable to film dramas currently, the Japanese actor would like to look forward to and prepare himself for when the lockdown is lifted.
Kimura has been actively posting every day, from selfie to group photo with fellow Johnny & Associates artistes Tomohisa Yamashita and Kazuya Kamenashi to casual stay-home shot.
In addition, Kimura did a small promotion of the concert DVD of his first solo album Go With The Flow, to be released on 24 June.
Showing yet another talent of his, the Japanese idol also uploaded his simple sketch of the character Shanks from popular manga and anime series One Piece, with the words “Let’s get through this together!”.
If anything, a common theme flows through the Instagram posts of Takuya Kimura, and it is none other than “Stay home! Stay safe! Stay positive!”. Apart from “going with the flow,” we all could use a little bit of positivity during this trying time, right?
