18 Jul – Takumi Kitamura has recently been cast to play Yusuke Urameshi in the upcoming anime live-action series, "Yu Yu Hakusho".

The news was shared by Netflix Japan on 16 July, stating that the actor and vocalist of rock band DISH// will play the lead role of Yusuke Urameshi.

Speaking about the role, Takumi admitted that he originally thought that his casting was a big joke, and couldn't believe he is lucky enough to play the role.

"Yu Yu Hakusho is a manga that Japan is proud of and I am happy to share this with the world. I also hope that Japan will continue to create works that can be enjoyed by audiences around the world," he added.

The film also marks the collaboration between the actor and director Shu Tsukikawa, who has helmed three of Takumi's previous works.

The original manga tells the story of Yusuke Urameshi, who is offered a chance to come back from the dead as a spirit detective who is tasked to defeat demons.

The series will be released in December 2023
