Despite boasting chiseled good looks that can pull off both heroic and villainous roles, Taiwanese actor Eddie Peng says that it is “much more fun to play the bad guy”.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday (5 July), Peng spoke about his role as the psychopathic villain, Joe Lee, in ” Cold War” and the sequel “Cold War 2”.

“You get to do a lot of interesting stuff, such as ‘abnormal’ actions that people can never imagine,” said the 34-year-old.

In the “Cold War” series, he created the snapping gesture for his character of Joe Lee.

He explained, “If I played a normal policeman character and I did that, people would ask, ‘What are you doing?’. (But) I’m a villain, so people don’t know what I’m going to do next.”

“It’s like watching a boxing match, you want to throw a jab or a hook and you don’t want people to know what you are going to do for your next move,” he added.

Peng drew inspiration for his character from iconic Hollywood villains such as Anthony Hopkins in “The Silence of the Lambs” and Edward Norton in “Primal Fear”.

“Cold War 2” is the sequel to 2012’s highest-grossing Hong Kong film “Cold War”, which won big at the 32nd Hong Kong Film Awards.

The sequel features the returning cast of Aaron Kwok, Tony Leung and Eddie Peng, as well as the addition of cinema superstar Chow Yun Fat.

The film is currently showing in Singapore.
