Taiwanese celebs saddened by "My Secret Garden" director's death

13 Jul – Taiwanese celebrities have recently expressed their sadness over the news of director Yang Guan-yu's death.

As reported on Mingpao, Ariel Lin, who worked with Yang on the idol drama, "My Secret Garden", expressed through her agent that the cast of the said drama originally planned to arrange a reunion dinner during the summer vacation, and that she is saddened by the fact that Yuan will not be a part of it.

Roy Chiu, who worked with Yuan on "Original Scent of Summer", said, "I can't believe it. When I saw the news online, I thought it was a hoax at first. Then I saw more and more articles about it shared by friends. I am grateful to have met you and will always remember you."

His co-star Rainie Yang, who also worked with Yuan again in "Sunshine Jelly", posted on Instagram, "I just learned the news [that director Yang Guan-yu] had passed away. RIP. I am very sad."

The show's producer Xin Zhi-yu also expressed her sadness, writing, "I received the news of your departure, and I felt a tingling sensation. You helped me as a rookie producer 17 years ago, and we built a bed and breakfast on the dangerous island of Penghu. Every morning we take a boat to go to sea to shoot. Thank you, Director Guan Yu, have a safe journey."

Yuan, who had a 20-year history of diabetes, passed away on 4 July after having hyperglycemia. During her 20-year career, the director has helmed many idol dramas and worked with many big stars like Rainie Yang and Ariel Lin.

She was 57.
