Padilla Family
The Padilla family has been conquering television screens ever since the ‘80s. Casimiro Padilla Sr. was a film director, while his wife Lilita Eva Carino was an actress. The couple produced actors Royette Padilla, Rommel Padilla, Rustom Padilla (now known as BB Gandanghari) and Robin Padilla. The latest in the clan to invade showbiz are Daniel Padilla, Kylie Padilla, and Bela Padilla. Daniel, Robin himself said, has taken over the role as standard bearer of the Padilla clan.
Moviegoers got to see the entire Padilla clan, except for BB, in the movie “Sa Ngalan ng Ina, Kapatid at mga Anak.”
Like other celebrity families, the Padillas are not exempt from controversies. Rustom did not get immediate approval from Robin when the former came out as BB. But now, Robin is planning to produce a film that will tackle gay rights in the country.
Public expectations about the family remains high because of Daniel, who has conquered not just television, but the movies and the concert stage as well.
Magalona Family
The family traces its roots to ‘40s stars Pancho Magalona and Tita Duran, parents of the late Master Rapper Francis Magalona, who married Pia Arroyo. Of their eight children, five – Maxene, Frank, Saab, Elmo and Arkin -- are in showbiz.
Frank plays Santi Vasquez in GMA’s “Rhodora X.” Maxene recently ended her portrayal as Vicky Santa Maria in “Mga Basang Sisiw” while Elmo just finished his “Villa Quintana” stint. Saab, also a musician, is engaged to Jim Bacarro and is getting married next year.
While the family has suffered a major setback after Francis died of leukemia in 2009, the Magalonas remain solid as ever. The clan continues to run FMCC, or the Francis Magalona Clothing Company.
Gutierrez Family
The Gutierrez family has been part of showbiz for years, since the time its patriarch Eddie Gutierrez starred as a matinee idol. Today, the family is still very popular, its matriarch Annabelle Rama manages her children -- Ruffa, Richard and Raymond. The family stars in the reality show “It Takes Guts to be a Gutierrez.” This makes the Gutierrezes the first Asian family to be featured in an international reality show.
The Gutierrezes, dubbed as the Philippine version of the Kardashians, has been involved in controversies. Richard had a major debacle involving his girlfriend, Sarah Lahbati.
As per Ruffa’s words, prayers keep the family together. “We're a family who stays together and holds one another's hands, especially when the going gets rough. We never leave each other alone.”
Now that Richard is back from his long vacation, the actor can now focus on his career as he is expected to star in an action thriller movie later this year. Ruffa is also said to have a big project with Star Cinema, while Raymond hosts TV5’s Showbiz Police.
Barretto Family
This family, headed by husband and wife Miguel and Inday Barretto, has been hogging the headlines lately because of their ongoing feud.
Two of the couple’s children, Claudine and Gretchen, are directly at odds, and flaunting it on social media. The clash has divided the family, with Inday and Claudine on one hand, and Gretchen and Marjorie on the other.
While controversies seem to hound this family, Gretchen, Claudine, and Marjorie, have respective acting talents to boast of. The newest Barretto in showbiz, Julia, is also gaining popularity.
Eigenmann Family
The Eigenmanns are full of talent. The family’s roots goes back to music icon Eddie Mesa and actress Rosemarie Gil. The couple produced respected performers Michael de Mesa, Mark Gil and Cherie Gil. Michael, who was married to Gina Alajar for 28 years before they split in 2006, is the father of Ryan, AJ and Geoff. Mark is the dad of Gabby Eigenmann, Sid Lucero (Tim Eigenmann), Andi Eigenmann and Maxene Eigenmann.
They are all busy with their respective projects while juggling controversies. Andi plays Betty Reyes in ABS-CBN’s remake of Dyesebel. Sid just finished his role as Fabian in indie film Norte, Hangganan ng Kasaysayan. Gabby recently ended his role as Edward Rodrigo in GMA’s Paraiso Ko’y Ikaw. Meanwhile, Geoff also recently finished “Adarna.”
